A Day to Remember

Blood, squawking, the sound of an axe, and then the sudden shock of horror. These are the impressions that I remember from killing a suffering chicken.
It all began in the dark of night, September, 22, 2014. The night was calm and dry and the predators were out searching for prey. It was an average peaceful night in the chicken coop. It was then that one particularly homicidal beast, a fierce mountain lion, spotted its prey. The prey may have been protected in a sturdy chicken coop, but times were tough, in the drought food was scarce, and 6 chickens asleep was an undeniable feast.
After searching for a way into the chicken coop the mountain lion saw its entrance. The door’s support had been broken, thus making the door vulnerable to attack. After a brief struggle, he was in. And then, his reign of terror had begun. He bounced back and forth feasting upon innocent chickens and even chicks, causing high-pitched squawks and screeches. Luckily these noises would be the chicken’s salvation. It was these noises that awoke my mom, who then grabbed her pellet gun and scared the beast away. By this time one of the chickens was dead, and two were injured.
One of the injured chickens was blessed enough to not have a fatal injury. The other chicken however, was in the worst condition imaginable; half of her stomach was completely gone, her vital organs were falling out, her wings and legs were broken, and you could see her heart and intestines bleeding out on the floor. The tortured bird was powerless to do anything but scream through the endless agonizing pain. Her pain needed to come to an end; it was too much. We had to put an end to the bird’s misery, and so my dad and I set out to kill the bird in what we thought was the easiest way possible; by chopping its head off. As if this wasn’t a hard enough decision to make already, my little brother felt that this was a good time to have an emotional breakdown.
And so, with our minds clouded with the sound of my brother screaming, “Don’t kill it!” my dad grabbed an axe, and I held the chicken’s head. As hard as it is to cut a living thing’s head off, two things made it even more difficult: First, this was my favorite chicken because it actually laid green eggs and was unique, compared to other chickens; secondly, as it turns out, cutting a chicken’s head of is the hardest way to watch a chicken die. When the head was finally removed and I saw the brain fall out, I was hoping for silence and for the suffering chicken to be still at last. Instead, when the head was gone, the headless chicken jumped up and started running around wildly, leaving its head behind. Then, after about three minutes, it dropped dead. After this my brother Jakob, appalled by the gory mess that lay before us yelled “guts are everywhere”.  Not only was this moment sad but it was also terrifying. When the chicken was finally dead, I turned, only to find the chicken hopping all over the place.
In conclusion, the moral of this story is that owning pets is a living nightmare of pure agony. You may think that owning pets is fun and games; you may think that owning pets is a rewarding experience; you may even think that owning pets is a “big responsibility” yet still is enjoyable. Well, I’m here to tell you that all of these ideas are false; owning pets is the most horrifically, atrocious you will ever attempt. Once you have pets, you clean up poop, chase after your pets, and feed and water them twenty-four seven straight until they die, and when they finally do die, chances are good that it’s your fault. And so, if you’re thinking about getting a pet, stop.

I am also telling you this: to let you know that mountain lions are pure evil and chances are highly likely that they live near you and are ready to eat you if you sleep outside. Also, you may want to know that, to this day, the surviving chicken lives on. She wears bandages and moves slowly, but she lives!

Owning a Business (Making a Difference)

Businesses, the very foundation of the economy. While the insides of businesses are often investigated, many forget about the most essential character in a business:  the owner.  It is due to these people that businesses exist; it is these people who carry the economy in a capitalist society.  In today's world, large publicly-owned corporations are taking over the world's economy, leaving no mercy to small family-owned businesses.  For these family-owned businesses, it has become a matter of survival.  About a week ago, in order to investigate the world of owning a business, I interviewed the owner of a local family-owned business, Western Waterworks, to see what it is like to own a business.
Western Water Works is a large family-owned business located in Chino, California with five other satellite offices.  The company sells everything from fire hydrants and pipes to valves and gauges. They also install these things in public and private places like parks, national parks, state parks, and nature trails.
The owner, Bruce Himes, said, "In college I was never interested in pipes; I just wanted to do something where I could know I was making a difference."
When I interviewed him on September 3 of this year, I asked what the hardest part of his career was.  Himes replied saying that it was finding good people to hire.  He said, "At Western Water Works we're always on the look-out for good, diligent people."  Rather than hiring people based on their college degree or skill set, Himes decided to hire people based instead on their work ethic.
Himes also said, "My favorite part of my job is watching people grow."  He said that he once had a gardener who was a really hard worker.  Although he had no background or notable skills, Himes gave him a small job at one of the company's warehouses. That young man went on to become warehouse manager and eventually transitioned into sales. Today he is the company's number one sales representative.
When asked what an average day was like, Himes said that on an average day he gets to his office at 6:00 A.M.  He studies there until six thirty, when people start to show up.  Around 10:00 he starts meetings with his salespeople, financial advisors, and warehouse managers. His meetings end around 5:00 when his work day ends.
When it comes to owning a business, the most essential skill is leadership.  Leadership is needed for training and motivating people, as well as many other things. In Himes's case, the quality of his leadership affects over seventy people.  Creativity, quick-wittedness, persuasion, and money-management are all very useful skills for owning a business as well.  Not much education is "required" for owning a business.  However, it can still prove to be useful for things such as building a reputation.
According to Himes, more horrible than all the rest, the most horrendous obstacle is taxes. Like any other business owner, Himes has seen taxes skyrocket time and time again. In today’s sad world a small-business is robbed of more than half of its income by the malevolence that is taxes.
Still the company has miraculously survived, and even though owning a business is grueling work, full of trials and tribulations, Himes wouldn’t have it any other way.
And so, whether it’s a massive, publicly-owned company rushing in to buy you out, permits you can’t afford or obtain, or not making enough money due to half of it all going to the government, owning a business is a nearly impossible task.           And yet even after all of these things, I’ve reached the conclusion that owning a business is still well worth it. Through owning a business you can personalize your company, you can be your own boss, you can be independent, and best of all.....YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Levers

Levers may not seem like much, however, they are among the most commonly used items around. Levers are everywhere, and it’s not a new thing at all. Levers have been who knows when. Even Archimedes of ancient Greece said “Give me a lever long enough and I can lift the world”.

Levers may not be that powerful but they sure do make heavy lifting one heck of a lot easier. That’s not all levers can do though, for instance a car relies almost entirely on spinning levers, also known as gears. This video will show you all about that though.

Levers have also been used many times in weapons. One classic example is the catapult.

So the uses of levers are never ending so

          How do levers work?

For starters, the dictionary defines the lever as a rigid bar used for leverage.

But before we even begin learning about how levers work we should know about a few basic items.

1. The Fulcrum.
A fulcrum something that supports something else that relies on only the fulcrum to hold itself up. In the case of levers that something is a lever.

2.The Load.
The load is what you are trying to lift or balance. The load is sometimes referred to as the resistance force or just resistance

3.The Force
The force or effort is basically the force or weight you are using to lift or balance out the load.

There are three different classes of levers.

(Class one, two, and three levers in that order.)
In a first class lever of  the fulcrum is underneath the middle of the lever. The force is on one side and the load is on the other. A good example of a class one lever is a balance scale.

In a class two lever the load is put on the middle of the lever, the force is put on either side, and the fulcrum is put on the opposite side of the load. A good example of a second class lever is a nutcracker.

In a class three lever the force is applied to the middle of the lever, the fulcrum is on one side of the lever, and the load is on the other side of that. A good example of a class three lever is a claw hammer.

One cool example of a class one lever is a trebuchet. A trebuchet is a medieval siege weapon that uses a very basic lever to throw huge projectiles at an enemy. In a trebuchet the fulcrum is positioned very close to the effort which is a much heavier weight. The load is hung on the other side of the lever. When the very heavy counterweight or effort is quickly applied to the other side of the much lighter load the load goes flying.
To see what a trebuchet was like have fun playing around with it by crushing medieval castles and people here :

Japan and the Samurai

As we all know the samurai were epic warriors with weird hats and razor sharp katana, but…

Who were the samurai actually?

The samurai were among the best warriors in history. Each samurai was a one man army compared to the European knights that were around at that time period. For one thing the samurai were masters at just about every martial art that was around back then, for another they not only had the best weapons around, but they also were experts at using them. To learn all there is to know about samurai warfare watch this video. And don't worry it is actually entertaining.

That’s pretty cool huh. As the video kind of explained the katana is pretty amazing, but believe it or not the katana is even cooler than he described. To get a grasp of the katanas full power watch this guy compare it to the European alternative at the time by slashing stuff with both the katana and the English long sword.

How the samurai were first created?

It all started back when Japan was made up of lots of city states. A city state is a city that has its own government. But anyway back then some barbarians were running around looting villages, robbing people, and stuff like that. So the daimyos (or rulers of the city states) were forced to hire expert warriors for protection. Over the course of time these warriors developed new weapons, martial arts, and codes to live by like the code of bushido. But it was not until Tokugawa, one of the daimyos, united Japan that the samurai became the government’s goons.

How did the age of the samurai end?
To learn about how the age of the samurai ended and what followed you can watch this crash course video, and don’t worry it’s not too boring.

Did you learn anything at all, or was this post about as good as crap. Please comment and tell me.

P.S
Sorry I could not find any games or activities about this subject.

The Aztecs

Who were the Aztecs?

The Aztecs were an ancient American civilization that was located in modern day Mexico.

In its height of power there capitol city was among one of the greatest in the world at that time, and would have been a wonder of the world if it wasn’t burnt to the ground. To get a basic outline of the Aztecs you can watch this video.

So as you can tell from watching that video the Aztecs were quite obviously insane but believe it or not they were even wackier than you might have thought. Take for example their food, you can learn about the repulsively nauseating food they ate by watching this episode of horrible histories Historical Masterchef.

Pretty sickening huh? Another awkward thing about the Aztecs is that they used chocolate for currency. At the time of the Aztec Empire most of the world never even knew what chocolate was since the Americas are one of the only places you can grow chocolate, and the Americas had not yet been discovered. But the Aztecs had plenty of chocolate, and everyone loved chocolate. So they used it for currency.  As a matter of fact Montezuma drank fifty goblets of chocolate a day.

The Aztecs fell to the Spaniards pretty easily. Why that is? Watch this video to find out.
What do you think about the Aztecs?

Fun Ways to Learn About the Vikings

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Wikinger.jpg

The vikings are probably my favorite topic to study in history. They were in my opinion the fiercest warriors of the middle ages. At the time their weaponry and equipment was state of the art, and their ships were the strongest and fastest in all the seven seas. The best way to learn about these things is to see them used and built. You can do that by watching this video.

Click here to play the educational game Viking explorer.

To learn about how the vikings attacked watch this funny music video.

The Twilight Zone

The twilight zone is in my opinion the absolute best old TV show. Unlike most TV shows the twilight zone takes place in a completely different setting every episode. From talking dolls, to aliens, the twilight zone has just about every subject imaginable.

Many people like the scary episodes. One fun thing I like about the twilight zone is that you never know how it is going to end!

They always have twilight zone marathons on certain holidays, and there are so many episodes that marathons last a long time!

Although all of the episodes are different they do have some things in common. One thing is that the director, Rod Serling, starts and ends all of them and they all have the same music.

Some of my favorite episodes are: the living doll, a world of his own, a nice place to visit, and a most unusual camera.

To fully understand the twilight zone you have to watch the show. It is very hard to describe. If you have seen it what do you like most about it? And what are your favorite episodes. If not does it sound like a good show? Please comment.

The Epic Battle of 1066

This post is about fun ways to learn about three epic battles that changed medieval times forever…

This war took place in Great Brittan in the year 1066. One fun game you may have already played in my games page is 1066 the game. This game describes the war very well and allows you to play with tons of fun activities during the time when you fight the war.
Click single player then campaign mode to begin playing, here is the link. 1066 the Game

Anyway the Anglo-Saxons would have won if not for the Vikings who they obliterated. The sad thing is, the Anglo-Saxons had finally defeated there horrible tormentors, the Vikings. They had finally gotten rid of their biggest struggle, their worst nightmare the Vikings. They had their greatest victory against the Vikings. But after the battle they were existed and that’s when the energetic Normans came in and killed the Anglo-Saxon king. They burnt houses and killed many. Afterwards Duke William of Normandy became king of England.

Horrible Histories has a funny fake news report about the war.

The Killer Whale

Sorry I haven’t updated my blog in so long. I got stuck having to do this annoying school project. Fortunately I am now able to write another blog post.

The Killer Whale is known both as a killer whale and a gentle giant. In this post I will go over why they are called what they are… The fun way!

Killer whales are ferocious, even though we know the great white shark to be the toughest fish it gets obliterated in this video!

The same sort of thing happened in this video... It also talks about how a killer whale kills things.

Considering how fierce these beasts seem to be, it is hard to believe that that they can be very friendly beast who are not hostile. Killer Whales actually can be trained to do many tricks. They are very playful animals. Even though one killer whale sadly ate its trainer, killer whales are generally safe to swim and play with.

Strangely but truly, killer whales are actually dolphins! They have the most widely spread territory in the entire ocean! Unfortunately I could not find any educational killer whale games.

The Presidential Nominees

Since the election is coming up I thought I should write about the candidates.

Obama...

The current president, Obama's old slogan was hope and change, but, considering that he got very little done and accomplished one thing he said he would {if that}, he decides to talk about what his opponent wants to do. Obama is a somewhat talented speaker. However, that being said, it's a shame that only 5% of what he says is true. Obama has the overall advantage of the news media. That’s why when you turn on the TV, you’re probably going to see them pointing out Romney's falsehoods and Obama's truths after speeches, debates, and other political events. The stupid thing is everybody should know what his plan is because he's been president four years! I liked Obama in the 2008 elections and I agreed with him that Bush stunk. I also thought it wasn't good that he added four trillion dollars in debt in eight years. However, Obama created more than that in four years. To prove that he's lying about the debt going down and fixing the debt, look at it now at http://usdebtclock.org/! Now when it comes to foreign policy, in the last debate, Obama claimed to have been strong allies with Israel. Even though he ignores their requests for help and decides to go on TV instead of meeting with their Prime Minister. One thing that's kind of scary is this {sorry it's bad quality}:

Not to mention that under his presidency, unemployment rates have skyrocketed. So if I were you, I would vote for the other guy.

As you may have noticed if you have read my blog before, writing negative things about people I don’t like is much easier for me than writing positive things about people I do. So my comments on Romney will be shorter than my information on Obama.

Romney

Mitt Romney was in charge of a small business and was very successful. Later he was put in charge of the 2002 Olympics and did a great job. Later that year he was elected governor of Massachusetts. You may have heard him bragging “our schools were number one in the nation.” This is Romney’s second time running for president. Last election he was beaten by John McCain (not the sharpest tool in the shed) with his obnoxious vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin. It’s no wonder Obama was elected last election.

Romney has experience in the economy, as a governor, and as a leader. I think he has what it takes to lead the U.S.A. Oh... and you should probably visit his website since I did not really include that much about him.

Even if you don’t like Romney, better him then Obama and Russia’s “flexibility”.

How to make a miniature cartoon or computer game for free!!!

In this post I am going to show you how to make short cartoon or game for free. If you want to make a long cartoon or game you will usually need to pay cash. To start you need to download a program called scratch you can read about scratch here http://mentalweight.blogspot.com/2011/01/scratch.html.

Open the program the screen will look like this.

Like most programs to begin go to file and click new. You can also edit a pre-made project by going to the website http://scratch.mit.edu/, finding a project you like and opening it on scratch. To start, at the far left corner click control these are all conditions, you must have one to begin an action for your character to move, attack, or do just about anything. To create a new character you can ether paint your own or open a picture from a file. To do ether one click one of the icons in the middle left corner. To make a character do something that involves it moving individual body parts or a change of the picture you must draw the animations your self, or download animated gifs from the Internet and import them as costumes by clicking costumes and then import. To paint animations yourself to the same thing except instead of clicking import click paint. To add sounds or music simply click sounds then import or record. For a way more detailed instructions watch tutorials on there website or click help on the program. I don't do scratch anymore because a couple of years ago my parents got me a better program for my birthday, but you can see some of my old projects along with one or two of my brother's here http://scratch.mit.edu/users/skinybones. Tell me what you think.

Is Rome the greatest?

This year in history we have moved on from ancient to medieval times.  But since history got pummeled into medieval times, the idiotic psychopaths finally got what was coming to them.  Whenever I learn about history in school it is referred to as the greatest civilization in the history of the world.... And that is why the lessons are stupid, because to understand Rome you need to look beyond the fancy shmancy sidewalk and onto the dunderhead in the throne.  We talk about other civilizations as barbarians and vampiric idiots as the civilized. And by vampiric I mean that these people liked to drink a warm cup of human blood even as medication. HUMAN BLOOD!!!

Ah, these Romans were civilized enough to know how to brush their teeth... WITH MOUSE BRAINS!!!  Tell me that isn’t gross.  With the strongest organized military in the land they didn’t stand a chance against a few tribes in 390 B.C. who sacked Rome and left. Nevertheless they paid the price literally; they left with 100 to 1000 pounds of gold.  Though Julius Caesar was a pretty good commander he cried because he had nothing close to the insane military mind of Alexander the great.  And died because he was too much of a dunderhead to realize that Cleopatra was an idiot.

Do you still think Rome was a great civilized empire?  Please comment.

CELTIC WARFARE !!!!!!!

The Celts lived in a widespread territory spreading throughout England, France, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales until around 44 B.C. when Julius Caesar got his head stuck in the salad bowl and started attacking Gaul (the Celtic land).  I mean, to attack this place you have to have some nerve.

The Celts were insane when it came to fighting, equipped with iron swords, spears, and huge wooden shields big enough to cover even the largest of these huge people, who were usually nudists. Painted like monkeys while playing ear-piercing music, these warriors were a terror on the battlefield. A roman historian named Tacitus wrote that the Celts' infantry was their main strength though their cavalry of chariots was still very fierce.

Polybius, a Greek historian, wrote that the Romans were horrified by the nudity and noise. The instant the Celtic infantry lifted their weapons they charged like rhinos, throwing their body at people sword-first.

The Celtic chariot riders attacked something like this:  first the driver would go all around while the rider continually threw weapons at everyone he could, murdering anyone in his path.  When surrounded by other cavalry the warrior would jump from the chariot and go on randomly killing people.

One other thing that made the Celts harder to beat is that they believed that no matter what, when they died it would be just like where they were except with no sickness or hunger or a bunch of other bad stuff.

So if you ever time travel, don't get on these guys' nerves.

This year in school

This year in school I regret to admit,

Has actually been an enormous hit,

We read some good books which I really enjoyed,

We also used educational toys,

Using a telescope we looked at the stars,

Before that we studied rocks from afar,

My favorite subject was history,

While in it we learned these things,

Sargon the great and his evil rule,

Hammurabi not wise but cruel,

Assurbanipal and his great library,

Nebuchadnezzar’s fertility,

Crazy Hatshepsut and her powerful dad,

The Persians that conquered all in their path,

Athens destroyed them in one big fight,

Then it grew to its maximum might,

After their destruction Alexander arose,

Completely obliterating all of his foes,

After his death Rome grew and grew,

With Julius Caesar and his awesome nephew,

In our very last lesson Rome finally fell,

To the dummy Attila who wished it farewell,

I really hope next year I will learn it this way,

While learning some excellent new things to say,

I’ll be learning astronomy so I’m glad,

Otherwise I might be sad,

All in all I liked school this year,

I hope this summer’s skies are very clear!

The Video Game Industry

Some of the best growing businesses in the U.S.A right now are video game industries. Some of these industries are: Activision, Nintendo, Playstation, Microsoft, Sega, and many more. There are many different professions in the gaming industry some of these are: programmers, engineers, artists, composers, designers, game testers (for insurance), sound designer, and many more!

Designers get paid very well depending on how experienced they are. With two years or less of experience you should make about forty-six thousand a year. If you have six or more years of experience you will probably get paid fifty-five to seventy thousand a year. However if you are the lead designer in charge you can make anywhere from forty-five thousand to one-hundred and eighty thousand dollars a year.

Artists and animators can get paid anywhere from forty-two thousand to sixty-seven thousand a year. Lead animators can get paid anywhere from sixty-four to two-hundred and fifteen-thousand a year depending on how good they are.

It sounds like a good profession to me. Does it to you? Please comment!

THE DESTRUCTION OF ROME!!!!!

Most people say that Rome was the greatest empire of all time. This may or may not be true. Today I am going to tell you about its annihilating obliteration.

The first of Rome's two destructions happened when it lost to the Gallic Tribes, who were, shockingly, uncivilized barbarians.  While this was happening, the Romans had other bizarre issues.  One of the most highly destructive of these was their despicable economy.

The first Gallic invasion of Rome was in 390 B.C.  The Romans were caught off-guard. At this period of time in Rome, all the armies only fought when they were ready to go on a campaign.  Because they were unprepared, they basically did not have a chance.

At one point they were able to get their military force together.  Then it was a fair fight.  But at the battle of Allia in July 18, 390 B.C., they were vanquished.  The Gauls' military force was way bigger than the Romans', and since the Romans' economy was so crappy, they could not buy more.
When the Gauls conquered Rome, they just stole 100 to 1000 pounds of gold and left.  The Gauls, however, became an epic terror in Rome.  Later on, Julius Caesar would conquer Gaul but not all of it....

Much later on, when Julius Caesar was by now a legend, the great country of Rome had:  dishonest generals, a despicable economy, over taxation making people sad and poor, shrinking population because of starvation, and many more bad problems.  To fix these problems, the Roman government (now just an emperor) decided to split the empire in half in order to allow two emperors to exist so Rome would be easier to manage.  (The west was the only real Rome since it contained the main land).

But the real Rome was still doing poorly at managing.  Then an alliance of the barbaric tribes attacked Rome and eventually defeated it.   The alliance was made of the Huns, Franks, Vandals, Saxons, Visigoths, and remaining Gallic tribes.

The other half of Rome was not attacked and did great.  They changed their name to Byzantine.  They lasted for the next millennia! After Rome was conquered the dark ages began.

My Pet Sasha a.k.a THE BEAST!!!

I have a dog who likes to sleep but mostly stuff her gut,
her toots are more deadly than a burning gasoline truck,
as spoiled as a whiny child,
as noisy as one too,
I must admit this simple truth
she's smarter than one, too.

She’s really very stubborn,
defiant, and absurd,
though every time I walk her
you’d think she was a nerd

You really kind of like her though sometimes you do not

which gives her the strange title of brainless Argonaut!

Alexander the Great

Alexander the great was the greatest military leader of all time! He was both a genius and an idiotic mass-murdering mad-man. He lived to be 33 years old. One of the most astonishing facts about him is that he never lost a battle in 11 years!

Even when Alexander was an adolescent he idolized Achilles and Hercules. He was educated by the famed Greek philosopher Aristotle. When his father inexplicably died Alexander became king. Some people believe Alexander killed him. Throughout his life he at all times tried to be better than his father in everything.

One of his quotes that show he’s a power-hungry maniac was when he said "in the universe there is an uncountable amount of worlds and I haven't conquered even one". His first major accomplishment was in 334 b.c when he vanquished the Persians with 40,000 soldiers in the battles of Gracious and Isis. After the war he cared for the solders and let the families of the murdered ones be free from all taxes.

Next he occupied Tyre. The Egyptian people were so relieved that the Persians were defeated that they proclaimed that he was the child of the Egyptian god Ammon and the pharaoh. After that he moved on to Atria and Sodugana (now Afghanistan and central Asia) according to triumph over these territories was given a challenge by king gordias to untie an extraordinarily tremendously difficult knot. Alexander cut the knot without hesitation and thus the phrase to cut the Gordian knot was born.

Despite his intelligent mind this guy had some serious issues. When his foster-brother who saved his life said Alexander’s solders were with him all the way, Alexander the stupid grabbed a guard’s spear and killed him in cold blood!

He founded over twenty fortified cities to toughen up his terrain. The most famous of these territories is Alexandria in Egypt. Alexander wanted to outdo Hercules by conquering Arabia, northern Africa, and the rest of the world! Fortunately for the rest of the world he mysteriously died in 323 b.c before that could come to pass. Nevertheless he created a titanic empire stretching from India to Istria or in today’s map from the Balkans to Lower Egypt.
